Here is just an example of what is expected when the game starts insofar as posting in character. The posts can be as long as you would like, just so long as they aren’t wild and crazy. (Or above a PG-13 level. Pro-Boards frowns upon that kind of thing. When in doubt ask a moderator.)
What RP posts should not look like:
Character A: *wanders over to the desk and picks up a paperweight* I could throw this at you now.
Character B: *takes the paperweight from CA* I would prefer it if you didn’t.
What RP posts should look like:
Character A’s post:
Walking over to the desk James picked up a paperweight, “I could throw this at you right now,” He said his voice dark with anger. He couldn’t believe that had gotten into a fight with Jason over such a silly issue. He tossed the paper weight up and caught it.
Character B’s post:
Jason caught the weight as James tossed it up in the air again, “I would prefer it if you didn’t. I imagine it would hurt.” Jason sighed, James could be so sensitive sometimes, “I didn’t mean to offend you.”
---
The first example isn’t a bad way to do a role play, but for our purposes the second way is what we need to do. We want to hear the characters thoughts and actions. Treat this like you are writing a story, because really that is what you are doing.
Excessively bad grammar and spelling should be avoided. Although if you are like me and your grammar skills are crap try writing up your posts in a word processing program should take out the major mistakes. The same goes for spelling. In fact I would suggest everyone does this, it cuts down on any little embarrassing mistakes, but that is just me.
---
If you have a comment to make before you post in character make sure it is clear it isn't a part of what your character is saying. For example: <OOC>*whatever you want to say as yourself</OOC> Anything like that will work.
