He yawned and pointed at Selkie, "You are an ass." Even if, honestly, he couldn't disagree with the assessment of the Rodrae, "And would it really be worth it to go through all that trouble to try to break through the Barrier, only to find out, oops, time's up, you're dead?"

Doc frowned, at least the Vistari understood that there was a problem, unlike the Rodrae boy.
"What will you eat when the canned food is gone? What next cannibalism? Every single resource in this City is finite. Before his bloody trap caught me, I was on my way here to barter in the hope of finding an insulin substitute for a child who had three doses left. That was three days ago. You don't need me to do the math for you!"
Doc took a deep shuddering breath and shook his head "sorry...I shouldn't have kicked off at you like that. My emotions are all out of whack"

He raised his eyebrow and laughed softly, "I'm not going to play a silly game for who gets the honor of getting to incept you. If the Rodrae want you, they'll get you. You very rarely get a choice in the matter."

"....." Doc tried to think of something to say but couldn't think of anything.
Upon reflection it seemed likely that none of the three hara had had a choice in their own destiny. In their eyes he probably looked quite the fool, with his insistance upon the illusion of choice.
"As you say, getting a choice is rare...and I recognise that I am doubtless distracting you all from other matters. Har Tura..If you'd like to speak on your Tribe's behalf I'll try to end this quickly"

Blithe nodded and walked forward to the bed, “The Tura are here to try and see that our fellow tribes don’t kill themselves off. The Vistari,” he said with a glace at Selkie, “Are very capable of taking care of themselves, and no doubt will function somehow no matter what happens. The Frag are a hidden lot, intent on finding ways to push the harish body past its limit. No doubt they will succeed in finding something that will kill a har and eventually run their tribe into the ground. The Rodrae are,” he glanced at Indra this time, “mostly psychopathic. I think it is likely they will self destruct.”
He met Houseman’s gaze and stared at him, “We are invested in seeing that life, in what ever form, survives this.”

Doc took a deep breath, the moment of decision was at hand.
Joining the Rodrae or the Frags was clearly out of the question, both seemed short sighted and unable to plan for a future beyond the bloodshed
The Tura made a good case, and on the face of it his tribe was the obvious one to join, from what little he'd seen he would fit right in becoming a doctor as he'd always dreamed of being..if in a slightly different way.
The Vistari...the compulsion.. it was wrong.. But of all the tribes the Vistari seemed to be the only ones that truly understood that The Barrier needed to be breached before everyone within the city starved. It was a tough choice, made worse by the suspicion that his mind was being influenced..but it was a choice none the less.
"I choose Vistari" he said feeling as if a great pressure had been relieved from his mind.
"I'm sorry Tura, but The Barrier is the 'elephant in the room'. Everything else is a symptom of its existence. Studying and defeating it will benefit Tacoma as a whole, far more than adding another intern to Tura."
"I don't know what this mutation process does to the human mind, but right now I view you and yours as friends. I hope that won't be changed by my decision."
He turned to Indra "I don't think you are psychopathic...maybe some of your tribe are..but you aren't."
And finally he turned to Selke
"So...I'm all yours. Perhaps you can explain the mutation process. Its not exactly general knowledge where I'm from."

Blithe nodded in acknowledgement, “You,” he said pointing to Indra, “please leave.” He turned to Selkie, “You behave.” He looked back to Houseman, “And you will find out soon enough.”

Selkie just gave Blithe a look as if he was saying, ‘I always do.’ He smiled a Houseman and approached the bed, “He’s right you know, you will find out soon enough.” Selkie had a slightly predatory look in his eyes, “I’m sure you’ll love it.”
He was already thinking of how to talk Ash into letting him seal the inception. He did after all bring him to the tribe.

"and I'm sure I won't" replied Doc "I've seen some of the failed mutations that have been turning up in some parts of town"
Doc glanced in Indra's direction and then continued
"Judgling from the cellular and exudative edema and tumor-like growths in the cadaver's abdomen...I would assume that its quite excruciating."
(OOC - its up to you Selkie and Blithe to define 'when and where' this continues....and whether being on a drip for a few days has counted toward the fasting period)

He stuch his tongue out at Blithe and raised his eyebrow towards the doctor, "Sometimes, you can't always see the psychopath." Politely, he turned to leave, giving Blithe a slight smile.
